The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, has urged officials under his administration to avoid oppression against the people of Afghanistan and to respond to citizens’ needs, according to a message issued for Eid al-Adha.

In the message, released on Sunday (May 24), Akhundzada called on Taliban officials to listen to the voices of the people, keep their doors open to the public, and address issues in a timely and effective manner.

He claimed that under Taliban rule, the religious rights of all citizens are protected and that no one has the right to oppress or abuse others.

Akhundzada also described safeguarding the system as a shared responsibility between the public and officials, reiterating his call for the implementation of Sharia law across Afghanistan.

Despite emphasizing the importance of addressing public concerns, the message made no reference to reopening schools and universities for girls, a key demand among many Afghans.

The statement also did not mention women, with most of the message directed toward male officials.

The message comes amid continued reports of restrictions and pressure on citizens, highlighting what observers describe as a gap between the Taliban’s statements and their actions.
