The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai welcomed the start of the new academic year, describing the ringing of the school bell as a symbol of new hope and opportunity.
In a statement posted on X, Karzai emphasized that education for both boys and girls is vital for Afghanistan’s progress, strength, self-reliance, and dignified future.
He warned that depriving girls of education and restricting women from work would further weaken Afghan society and deepen its challenges. Karzai said the continuation of such policies would cause irreparable harm to the country’s stability and development.
He called for the reopening of schools and universities for girls and urged authorities to allow women to work and actively participate in society to help move the country forward.
Karzai also congratulated students on the new academic year and encouraged them to pursue education through all possible means and strive for higher academic achievements.
