The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Richard Bennett has expressed concern about the situation of millions of Afghan migrants living in Iran, saying many face marginal conditions, lack legal status and have limited access to social support.
Bennett, the special rapporteur appointed by the United
Nations on human rights in Afghanistan, wrote Thursday on X that among the
migrants are many women living alone who face heightened vulnerabilities.
He added that reducing tensions and ensuring accountability
by all sides should remain a priority, emphasizing that war is not a solution
and only worsens existing problems.
Bennett’s remarks come as UN experts previously issued a
statement condemning recent attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran.
The escalating tensions involving Iran, Israel and countries
hosting U.S. military bases continue as millions of Afghan migrants remain in
Iran, raising concerns about their safety and living conditions.
