The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Supreme Court said Tuesday that 17 people were publicly flogged in Kabul after being convicted of selling and smuggling narcotic tablets, methamphetamine and alcoholic beverages.

In a statement issued on March 3, 2026, the Taliban Supreme Court said a primary court in Kabul sentenced the individuals to prison terms ranging from nine months to seven years, along with 10 to 39 lashes.

According to the statement, the punishments were carried out after being approved by the Taliban’s Supreme Court.

The Taliban have repeatedly carried out public floggings over the past four years, a practice that has drawn criticism and concern from human rights organizations.
