The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Supreme Court said that 37 people in Kabul and three in Faryab were publicly flogged over various charges.
In Kabul, the 37 individuals were accused of “selling and trafficking narcotic tablets, methamphetamine, alcoholic beverages, hashish, and theft,” while in Faryab, the three were punished for “producing, selling, and drinking alcohol,” the court said.
The announcement added that the Taliban’s primary court in Kabul had sentenced the accused to seven months to three years in prison and 10 to 39 lashes. After the Supreme Court’s approval, the flogging sentences were carried out publicly.
In a separate statement, the Taliban’s Supreme Court said that the primary court in Shirin Tagab district of Faryab had sentenced each of the three individuals to two years in prison and 39 lashes.
Over the past four years, the Taliban have repeatedly carried out corporal punishment, including public flogging, across Afghanistan—a practice that has drawn widespread criticism from human rights organizations and the international community.
