The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban say they have publicly flogged 36 people in Khost province after convicting them on charges related to drugs, extramarital relations and sodomy.

In a statement issued Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, the Taliban Supreme Court said a primary court in Khost sentenced the individuals to between 10 and 39 lashes, along with prison terms ranging from one to two years.

According to the statement, the punishments were carried out in public after being approved by the Taliban Supreme Court.

The floggings come as the Taliban, over the past four years, have repeatedly subjected people accused of various crimes to public corporal punishment in different provinces across Afghanistan — a practice that has consistently drawn strong criticism and condemnation from human rights organizations.
