The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iran has executed an Afghan citizen among seven men put to death in separate executions at Qazvin Central Prison, according to Iran Human Rights.

The organization said on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2026, that the executions were carried out on Saturday, Jan. 17, and Wednesday, Jan. 7, in two separate rounds.

According to the report, the Afghan national, identified as Khairullah Goljani, was executed on drug-related charges. Iran Human Rights said Goljani was a 45-year-old Afghan citizen who had been living in Mahdasht, Karaj, near Tehran.

The group said Goljani was the father of two children and had owned a small vegetable shop before his arrest. He was detained by Iranian security forces about two years ago on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death.

Iran is among the countries with the highest number of executions worldwide, a practice that has long drawn sharp criticism from international human rights organizations.
