The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Supreme Court said three people were flogged in northern Faryab province on charges of “illicit relations and fleeing home.”

In a statement issued on Jan. 19, 2025, the court said a Taliban primary court in the districts of Khwaja Musa and Qaramqol sentenced two of the individuals to three years in prison and 39 lashes each.

According to the statement, the third person was sentenced to 30 lashes.

The punishments come as the Taliban, over the past more than four years, have repeatedly carried out public floggings and other corporal punishments against people accused of various crimes—actions that have drawn widespread condemnation from human rights organizations and the international community.
