The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban said they have administered a discretionary punishment to a man accused of adultery in Kabul’s Chahar Asyab district, according to a statement issued by the Taliban Supreme Court on Sunday.
The statement said the punishment was carried out under a
ruling by the Chahar Asyab primary court, which had sentenced the man on Jan.
17, 2026, to three years in prison and 39 lashes. The sentence was implemented
after being approved by the Taliban Supreme Court.
The court said the case was decided following a full
investigation by the primary court and that the final ruling was enforced after
confirmation by higher judicial authorities.
Since returning to power, the Taliban say they are
implementing court rulings across the country in line with their interpretation
of Islamic law. Human rights organizations, however, have repeatedly criticized
corporal and public punishments, saying they violate international human rights
standards.
