The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan’s Supreme Court under Taliban control says three individuals were publicly flogged in Giyan district, Paktika province, for theft.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the court said the primary Taliban court in Giyan had sentenced the individuals to six months to one and a half years of imprisonment and 20 to 30 lashes. The Supreme Court confirmed the sentence and carried out the punishment.

Over the past four years, the Taliban have repeatedly publicly flogged individuals for crimes including theft, running away from home, and “immoral relations,” a practice widely condemned by human rights organizations.
