The Kabul Tribune (KT) - The Taliban’s Supreme Court says it has publicly flogged a man in northern Balkh province after convicting him of selling alcoholic beverages.
In a statement, the court said the man was sentenced to one year and two months in prison, along with 39 lashes.
The announcement added that similar punishments have recently been carried out in other provinces, including Parwan and Takhar, where four people were flogged on comparable charges.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have frequently enforced corporal punishment in public for a range of offenses, a practice that has drawn criticism from human rights organizations.
