The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Supreme Court said that 17 individuals were publicly flogged in Kunar province for drug use and sodomy.

In a statement on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, the court said the individuals were sentenced by the Taliban Primary Court in Kunar to one to two years of imprisonment and 10 to 39 lashes each.

The statement added that the sentences were carried out after approval by the Taliban Supreme Court and that the floggings were conducted in public.

Human rights organizations have consistently criticized the Taliban for publicly flogging individuals over various charges, a practice repeated numerous times over the past four years.
