The Kabul Tribune (KT) - UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the detention of 10 additional United Nations staff members in Yemen by the Houthi de facto authorities, bringing the total number of detained UN personnel to 69.
In a post on X, Guterres said he “strongly condemns the arbitrary detention of a further 10 UN colleagues” and called for the “immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained personnel.” He added that he stands in solidarity with the affected families and communities in Yemen.
The United Nations had earlier said the staff members were detained on Thursday. The Houthis have previously accused UN personnel and the organization’s activities in Yemen of espionage, allegations that the United Nations has repeatedly denied.
The Houthi group has controlled most parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, since late 2014 and early 2015.
