The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Senior diplomats from several regional countries gathered in Tehran on Sunday for a high-level meeting to discuss recent developments in Afghanistan and related regional concerns.
The talks brought together special envoys and officials
responsible for Afghanistan affairs from Tajikistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan,
Turkmenistan, China and Russia. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi
addressed the opening session, stressing Tehran’s interest in dialogue and
regional coordination on Afghanistan.
According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan’s special representative
Mohammad Sadiq is expected to outline Islamabad’s views on the situation in
Afghanistan, including concerns that the country could become a safe haven for
militants, with particular emphasis on security challenges and their impact on
regional stability.
Taliban officials from Afghanistan had been invited to
attend the meeting but declined to participate.
