The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Local sources in Uruzgan province say an unidentified
gunman shot and killed a former soldier of the previous Afghan government on
Thursday morning in Chora district.
The sources, who requested anonymity, told The Kabul Tribune
that the victim had fled to Iran after the collapse of the former government
and had recently returned to Afghanistan. He was reportedly shot in front of Abdul
Wadood Madrasa in the district market.
According to the information, the deceased, Samiaullah Asli,
was originally from the Chowni area of Gizab district, Uruzgan.
Officials and local residents said similar targeted killings
of former government soldiers have occurred in other parts of the country in
recent weeks, raising concerns about security for returning former personnel.
