The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistani media on Wednesday dismissed widespread social media rumors suggesting former prime minister Imran Khan had been moved out of Adiala jail or was in deteriorating health, reporting that prison officials insisted he remains inside the facility and is “fully healthy.”
Pakistan’s Express Tribune reported that the Adiala jail
administration rejected claims circulating online that Imran Khan, founder of the
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been shifted from the prison or was
suffering from serious health issues.
“There is no truth to reports about his transfer from Adiala
jail,” Rawalpindi prison officials said, adding that Khan was “fully healthy
and receiving complete medical attention.” The administration called
speculation about his condition “baseless.”
Khan, jailed since August 2023, faces multiple charges —
including corruption and terrorism — stemming from his removal from office
following a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
Separately, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said Khan was
receiving “comforts” in prison that surpassed even luxury facilities. “The food
he gets isn’t available in five-star hotels,” Asif remarked, adding that the
PTI founder had access to television, exercise machines and other amenities.
Asif contrasted Khan’s treatment with the harsh conditions
he said he experienced during his own imprisonment — sleeping on cold floors,
eating standard jail meals and having limited bedding with no hot water.
The minister added that Khan had been given a double bed and
“a velvet mattress,” saying he should “listen to his Washington Arena speech on
the jail loudspeaker.”
